M9 PHROBIS

BACKGROUND

During the initial days of the adoption of the M9 service pistol, the platform was plagued with the slide breakage scandal which not only prompted investigations by the U.S. military, but also development for a “fix” to the problem.

The Phrobis M9 project was one that emerged under such context, the idea is to replace the existing slide with one that is reinforced in the locking lug area, as well removing the open top for additional material strength.

The result is a slide that is perhaps over built and over engineered for its purpose, but also gave the gun a completely new and unique appearance that many have grown to love.

Ultimately the project never went beyond prototype stage as Beretta came out with no-cost solution that was quickly accepted and adopted the U.S. Army, there were an estimated 20 or so surviving prototype slides at various stages of completion that may be in existence, with even fewer that are completed for actual use. For that reason these Phrobis made M9 slides remain a highly desirable and sought after item by collectors.

CDW is able to acquire an original example of this slide and complete this build.
